The story follows Joker Flight, a four-ship squadron flying from the carrier Endurance for the Federation of Central Usea, the last fighting force of a nation hit by a surprise invasion in 2029. You fly as Joker 1, callsign Rex. Here is the cast Bandai Namco has introduced, with no plot spoilers past the opening.

The setting
The war opens with a surprise attack by the Republic of Sotoa on the Federation of Central Usea. Wings of Theve is the name of a legendary ace, and the name Joker Flight flies under. The live-action prequel series, Hour Zero, sets up the war before the first mission.
