Ace Combat 8 Guide

Ace Combat 8 Crash Fix

Crashes in the Steam version are a known problem that Bandai Namco is investigating, with no patch date yet. Two checks come first: the recommended graphics driver, and free space with virtual memory on. Do those, then match your symptom in the table below.

The two checks to do first

  1. 1

    Use the recommended graphics driver

When the game starts it tells you which driver version it wants. Install that version, not simply the newest one, and restart.
  2. 2

Leave 16 GB free and keep virtual memory on

Keep at least 16 GB free on the SSD the game is installed to, and make sure Windows virtual memory (the page file) is switched on. It is on by default; people who turned it off to save space are the ones this catches.

Match your symptom

Crash to desktop mid-missionMost often during long missions, sometimes with no error at all
Do both checks above first. Players also report fewer crashes with the NVIDIA overlay off, memory overclocks off, and the game in fullscreen.
UE live error 01An Unreal Engine error box, then the game closes
Same order: recommended driver, then free space with virtual memory on. Keep at least 10 GB free on the Windows drive as well.
Easy Anti-Cheat: stuck on waiting for gameThe anti-cheat splash appears and the game never opens
Launch the game from Steam rather than from its executable. Beyond that there is no fix that works for everyone yet; the crashes are under investigation.
ST-310001 (disconnected)Online only, kicked out of a sortie
Sync the Windows clock (Settings, Time and language, Sync now). A disconnect mid-match can count as leaving early; see the online page for the penalty.
ST-3200003On Linux or Steam Deck, the moment an online match loads
Not fixable on your side: Easy Anti-Cheat is not enabled for Linux. The campaign runs on desktop Linux; the Deck is less reliable. Details on the Steam Deck page.
Intel Arc crashesFrequent crashes on Arc A-series cards
Install the newest Arc driver. No Intel card is on the requirements list, and Arc is where crash reports cluster; a patch is the realistic fix.

The field of view is not a bug

The game has no field-of-view slider. A mod on Nexus Mods changes it, but it needs Easy Anti-Cheat switched off, which locks you out of online play. If the narrow view is what makes it feel unplayable, the cockpit and chase cameras are the only built-in options for now.

Still crashing on a card that should run it?

Put your exact card into the PC check. A card without ray-tracing hardware does not meet the minimum requirement, and a card under the listed minimum is unsupported.
